Overlook Hotel Staff Tote
When The Shining was first published, readers praised the work for its bold, vivid depiction of what it’s like to tend a hotel in the offseason. But in the years afterward, a small group of former employees raised voices of dissent, arguing that the book and movie were not 100% realistic. Some went so far as to say that the representations of horrifying ghost twins and—most frightening of all—overly redundant prose writing were exaggerated for dramatic effect.
And so, with these employees’ concerns in mind, we designed a collection honoring the Overlook Hotel’s fonder moments. Whether the staff was playing catch on the front lawn, cooking up some grilled cheese sandwiches in the kitchen after closing time, or designing and racing through a completely non-fatal maze, the staff has many warm memories of the hotel.
Our design points to a particularly enjoyable staff retreat, rather close in time to the events described in the book, that the staff remember well. Suitable for those who wish to look on the bright side of things, rather than dwell on crimes and the raging spirits of the damned victims, this tote comes ready to carry whatever you need on your regular journey to a normal destination.
